GODS OF COMEDY

Performances: April 24 - May 17, 2026– Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm; Sundays at 2:00 pm; Thursday, April 30, 8:00 pm
Auditions: Sunday, February 8th, 6:00 pm-9:00 pm; Monday, February 9th, 7pm-10pm
Appointments are scheduled in 30 minute sections for six auditioners at a time. Indicate conflicts. Include your headshot and resume. NON-AEA.
Please arrive 15 minutes early to fill out audition form. Be sure to bring your headshot and resume and a list of possible conflicts.
Auditions Location: Masquers Playhouse, 105 Park Place, Pt Richmond
Audition Requirements: Actors will read Selected Sides for roles desired (see character descriptions below). No monologue required. Casting 7 Actors, 4W/3M (10 Characters).
Audition sides, the audition form and the script are available below.
Callbacks: Tuesday, February 17, 7:00 pm-10:00 pm at the Masquers Playhouse, 105 Park Avenue, Pt. Richmond. The Production Team will contact individuals who are invited to attend callbacks.
Rehearsals: March 16 - April 23, 2026, Monday-Thursday evenings from 7:00 pm-10:00 pm and on Tech Sunday, April 19. A rehearsal schedule (subject to change) will be distributed at the first rehearsal

Synopsis: Gods of Comedy, by Ken Ludwig
Time – Present Day
Place - Act I, Sc. 1 – Bazaar on the island of Naxos in Greece
Act I, Sc. 2 – Faculty office of an American liberal arts college
Act II – College campus courtyard
Ken Ludwig's THE GODS OF COMEDY follows Daphne and Ralph, young classics professors who have just made a discovery that's sure to turn them into academic superstars. But something goes disastrously wrong, and Daphne cries out in a panic, "Save me, gods of ancient Greece!" . . . and the gods actually appear! The Ivy League will never be the same as a pair of screwball deities encounters the carnal complexity of college coeds, campus capers, and conspicuous consumption. TV’s Bewitched Meets Mel Brooks!
NOTE – This show requires all members of the ensemble to be comfortable with properly rehearsed and agreed upon acts of intimacy, including kissing.

Presenting: Male identifying, Greek

Character: A local Greek salesman on the island of Naxos, who serves as a narrator. Befriends Daphne. Speaks with an accent. This role also plays Aleksi and Ares.
Aleksi: For Audition- Use Sides #2, #4 & #7
Age:30's-40's
Presenting: Male identifying, Russian
Ethnicity: Any
Character: A lovable university custodian-Sweet, well-meaning, a little clumsy. Speaks with an accent. This role also plays Aristide and Ares.
Ares: For Audition- Use Sides #2, #4 & #7
Age:30's-40's
Presenting: Male identifying
Ethnicity: Any
Character: The Greek God of war, depicted as intimidating, rude, manly and aggressive. This role also plays Aristide and Aleksi.
Daphne Rain: For Audition:Use Sides #3 & #6

Character: A young and highly regarded American Classics professor who is passionate about her work. Easily frazzled, lacks confidence, workaholic, driven.
Dean Trickett: For Audition- Use Sides #3 & #8
Age:40's-60's
Presenting: Female identifying, English
Ethnicity: Any
Character: An ungainly English Dean of the Classics Department, described as a "lusty force of nature" with a hearty laugh. She is dedicated to preserving and promoting the study of Classics. Speaks with an English accent.
Ralph Sargent: For Audition- Use Sides #3 & #8
Age:30's
Presenting: Male identifying
Ethnicity: Any
Character: A rising star in Hellenistic studies who has joined Daphne's department. He is an ambitious, charming, attractive college professor eager to make a name for himself, particularly through finding a lost Euripides play.
Brooklyn De Wolfe: For Audition- Use Sides #5 & #7
Age:20's-30's
Presenting: Female identifying
Ethnicity: Any
Character: A former student scholar who has become a successful big-time movie star. She is gorgeous, stylish, charming and knows how to get what she wants. This role also plays Zoe.
Dionysus: For Audition- Use Sides #1 & #7
Age:Any
Presenting: Male identifying
Ethnicity: Any
Character: The Greek god of wine, revelry, and misrule, sent on a mission from Zeus. He's boisterous, ecstatic, very funny and enjoys the modern university campus. He has no boundaries.
Thalia: For Audition- Use Sides #1 & #7
Age:Any
Presenting: Female identifying
Ethnicity: Any
Character: The ancient Greek muse of comedy and idyllic poetry, who serves as Dionysus's partner. She is sexy and positive, despite not always being the sharpest. She makes up for it with her wonderful self-confidence.
